My Personal Statement
Perhaps it would be cheesy for me to say, this is the story of my life. I don’t mind though, I am a very cheesy person. I used to be one of those people who thought I would grow up one day, become a princess, find my prince charming, and live happily ever after with talking mice and singing birds. Of course, not everything ends up how you first expect them to.
When entered high school, I had a dream of singing, but now I know what I truly want to pursue in the future. I realize that there is something else I would love to do and it turns out to be something that I hadn't thought could be part of my future. I really enjoy reading books and other pieces of literature varying from journals to essays. In a year, I complete an average of 50 books. Because of all of these books and stories in my head, I feel that I have creativity when it comes to storywriting. And so with these creative ideas and styles wrapped up in my mind, I want to pursue Journalism.
Journalism mean communicating. In my mind, it is something that allows you to collect your thoughts, and explore the thoughts that others have. For me, journalism is similar to the things that I do everyday. Making new friends is a talent I have that may be even greater than my talent in singing. I can talk to anyone, find common ground and strike up conversation. Even if I have never talked to that person before, I somehow manage to keep calm and talk. Perhaps I talk more than I should, but rather than babbling, I can continue having communication and asking questions without awkward pauses. A valuable skill, needed when one is hoping for a future in journalism, and this is an ability that I am thankful to have.
Perhaps it is my love for reading that has caused me to develop a love for writing lyrics as well. I make music that is only for my ears to hear and I sing the songs that flow through my heart.
In college, I am planning to major in communications, and perhaps make music on the side. Many people have talked to me about music, and one man, a familiar teacher to us all, mentioned that you don’t have to go learn music. If you love it enough, you’ll find a way to incorporate it into your life. I do love music, but my love and passion lie within my voice and words. Although I am not sure where I may reside in the coming years, I know that I will be following my dreams. With my words, I will teach. I am looking forward to what will come my way in the future and I hope to grasp whatever it is, with an open mind, and wide arms.
